Question: What happens when two enterprising consultants start collaborating on best practices and consistent methods for implementing MEDITECH’s clinical applications?
Answer: They transform themselves from consultants to entrepreneurs and launch a whole new concept for delivering education and information to the MEDITECH community.
And now the rest of the story …
Chris Goffredo and Lisa Doyle began their careers working as applications specialists in the Implementation Division at MEDITECH. This meant years on the road, developing skills in system building, design and application functionality.
They realized software was only part of the puzzle.
With a solid foundation of MEDITECH clinical applications in hand, they moved into consulting. Here, working side-by-side with clinicians and IT staff in healthcare facilities across the country, they were exposed to an entirely different side of the implementation process. Being immersed in the day-to-day application of clinical systems, they quickly saw that software was only one piece of a much larger puzzle. It was through these long-term engagements that Chris and Lisa were able to expand their skills to include project management and workflow impact and design.
As they worked, questions emerged.
| • Why aren’t facilities fully prepared for what they are getting into? • How can we better prepare clinicians who have never automated their paper clinical documentation to transition to their role as standardization, system design, system builders and project management specialists for their facility? • Why isn’t there a more prescribed method and toolset for managing the implementation of these projects? |
And answers followed.
Their collaboration led to an indisputable conclusion: there needed to be a systematic educational approach for implementing clinical software. Their new niche, unfilled until now, would focus solely on the education behind the implementation. Rather than compete with the consultants, they would create a company to serve as a complementary—and hugely important—resource.

Lisa shapes and defines CliniSystems’ strategies and services, and plays a key role in writing all of the training curricula. While starting a new business is never easy, with close to two decades implementing MEDITECH clinical applications, Lisa’s expert knowledge and from the trenches experience gives their team a real edge.
Lisa spent 9 years in the Implementation Division at MEDITECH developing a foundation in MEDITECH clinical applications and implementing both Client Server and Magic applications in over 50 facilities.
The next decade was spent as a consultant managing several complex, multi-facility, multi-phased MEDITECH clinical application projects.
To keep that sharp edge, Lisa continues to lead projects as an independent consultant working with facilities to implement MEDITECH clinical applications.
A typical day for Chris is anything but typical. One day it is leading project teams, the next it is building and testing systems and another might find him providing strategic direction and managing the logistics of MEDITECH client engagements. But no matter what he’s doing, he is always moving CliniSystems forward, transforming these experiences into educational materials and presentations. And while he doesn’t have a favorite task, he does have a favorite time: those “aha” moments when his clients truly understand a new technology, process, or software function.
With 13 years experience in implementing and managing healthcare information systems and software quality assurance testing, Chris has developed a hands-on expert level understanding of MEDITECH Client Server and Magic clinical applications and the implementation process.
Chris was instrumental in helping to lead the implementation of the PCS, ITS, and EMR applications state-wide for the Massachusetts Department of Mental Health while working for a major consulting company as Senior Clinical Consultant. He led Client Server and Magic clinical implementations at dozens of single-facility and multi-facility acute and long-term care facilities as Senior Applications Consultant for Medical Information Technology, Inc.
To continue to deepen his knowledge and expertise he continues to work as an independent consultant and is currently providing technical and clinical HIS direction as Clinical Project Manager for Brockton Hospital’s multi-year Advanced Clinical software implementation initiative. He is also lending his expertise to South Shore Hospital’s implementation of physician ordering in the Emergency Department.
Chris is pursuing a Masters of Health Informatics degree at Northeastern University and is anticipated to complete his studies in 2009
